Abstract
Resilience is the capacity of an individual exposed to biological factors, stressful life events or risk to successfully
adapt. Most people have a natural resilience, but not all respond in the same way in the face of adversity.
The aim of this study has been to study the physiological mechanisms the human body can use to develop
resilience. Achieving this aim has involved bibliographic research. The main results obtained show
that there are four key factors which explain resilience: genetic, epigenetic, social, and physiological. In
conclusion, the body has physiological circuits by which it develops resilience. However, more studies are
needed to establish the specifics.
