Abstract
Psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease characterized by the hyperproliferation of keratinocytes
and anomalous keratinization, which generates white plaques. Currently there is no cure for psoriasis,
however the available treatments are based on topical and systemic therapies, which have benefits but can
cause side effects that limit their usage. Conventional topical treatments have several limitations that emphasize
the lack of a cure and an effective treatment. For this reason, pharmacotherapy for psoriasis could
benefit from advances in nanomedicine: the design of new nanosystems overcomes the limitations of
conventional topical therapy. Thus, the application of nanotechnology could imply significant improvements
to the topical treatment of psoriasis.
