This study aims to analyze the economic dynamics of the services sector in Vitória da Conquista, municipality located in the southwest of the State of Bahia. The study intends to establish a relationship between the quantitative and qualitative growth of this sector and the economic development of the city. It also aims to identify the tertiary activities of the municipality, specially the ones that stood out the most in the development of the place, so that it might be possible to answer the question about in which way the service sector has contributed to the development of the municipality. Using as theoretical basis, among others, the theory of the two circuits, the paper concludes that the tertiary sector has contributed to the increase of formal jobs and increased their participation in the composition of the municipal GDP. Thus, it promotes multiplier effects by representing a vector of local development and an inductor of economic dynamism.

O presente trabalho visa analisar a dinâmica econômica do setor de serviços em Vitória da Conquista, município localizado no Sudoeste do Estado da Bahia, intentando estabelecer uma relação entre o crescimento quantitativo e qualitativo deste setor e o desenvolvimento econômico do município. Também se propõe a identificar as atividades terciárias do município de Vitória da Conquista e, dentro destas, as que mais se destacaram no processo de desenvolvimento do município, buscando responder à questão da forma como o setor de serviços tem contribuído para o desenvolvimento do município. Usando como base teórica, dentre outras, a teoria dos dois circuitos, o trabalho conclui que o setor terciário tem contribuído para o aumento de postos de trabalho formais e aumentado sua participação na composição do PIB municipal, representando, assim, um vetor de desenvolvimento local e indutor do dinamismo econômico, promovendo efeitos multiplicadores.
