Hi ha obres d’art, siguin del moment històric que siguin, que susciten una admiració i un reconeixement unànimes. Sens dubte, el Pantocràtor de Taüll —popularment conegut amb aquest nom erroni— n’és una. Però la valoració social d’una obra no sempre es basa en el coneixement, i fins i tot pot arribar a anul·lar les preguntes o fer que s’ignorin les raons de la seva història. Cap obra d’art, tampoc aquesta, no s’ha de resistir a una anàlisi historicoartística.
There are works of art from every historical period that arouse unanimous admiration and recognition amongst those beholding them. There is no doubt that the Christ Pantocrator of Taüll—the erroneous name it is popularly known by—is one such work. But social value does not always correspond to real knowledge: it can even lead us to stop asking questions or ignore the reasons behind an artwork’s history. No work of art, not even this one, should be able to hold out against historical-artistic analysis.
