RAFAEL DE ESPAÑA - Director
(M. D. and Ph. D.). Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. He is Adjunct Director of the Centre for Cinematic Research FILM-HISTORIA (Scientific Park of Barcelona), and current Editor of the journal FILMHISTORIA Online.
Author of numerous essays on historical films and the books The Spanish Cinema: An Historical Approach (1987), Directory of Spanish and Portuguese Filmmakers and Films (1994), El Peplum: La antigüedad en el cine (1998), El cine de Goebbels (2000), Las sombras del Encuentro. España y América: cuatro siglos de Historia a través del Cine (2002), Breve historia del western mediterráneo (2002), Balcázar Producciones Cinematográficas: Más allá de Esplugas City (2005), De La Mancha a la pantalla. Aventuras cinematográficas del ingenioso hidalgo (2006, 2007), La pantalla épica. Los héroes de la Antigüedad vistos por el cine (2009), and La pantalla lírica. El cine va a la ópera (2011).
Member of the Spanish Academy of Film Arts and Sciencies, he has lectured in the United States, United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Israel, and Japan.
